ASAP board member Alistair Pim, CSAP, vice president of global strategic alliances at Schneider Electric, blogged about ASAP Global Member Microsoft's foray into the smart cities space with the launch of its CityNext initiative.

Of course, the convergence between utilities and IT, particularly around initiatives around energy conservation, has been well documented. ASAP Global Members IBM and Cisco have been touting their respective initiatives for years now. In fact, IBM and Schneider Electric will be featured in the second installment of our series on public-private partnerships, an article that will examine sustainability slated to appear in the Q3 2013 issue of Strategic Alliance Magazine.

Microsoft might be late to the party from a marketing standpoint, but it has been working with customers and partners in utilities, construction, and other verticals that touch smart city projects.
