How to Ask Questions About Your Partner
by Mark Hunter
The session will be organized around three issues, each based on examples from case studies or consulting done by Mark Hunter.
The issues are:
1. Can we deal with the other guys? What is their record? What are their prospects? What do they need from us?
Key skill: forming a hypothesis that includes terms which can be verified from open sources. At this point we assess what sources people in the room currently rely on.
Case study: Gatetrade.net.
2. What is my partner’s strategy? Do we matter to them? Are we core, or an option?
Key skill: Building a timeline to track partner moves.
Case study: Nokia and Symbian.
3. As we go forward, what is changing? Are the people acting differently? Who are the new people who get involved? Are the markets shifting? If so, are we in the right place?
Key skill: Interviewing techniques and assessment of information content and emotional content.
Case study: Nissan.
