To be successful in business today, companies must think beyond their own borders. Regardless of size, life stage, industry, etc. businesses have one thing in common–limited resources. There never seems to be enough people, time, or money! Strategies and priorities are further challenged by externalities including macroeconomics, business trends, and political landscapes. To achieve best outcomes, companies must do what may seem like the unthinkable–turn to their competitors for help.

Melissa Monk is a senior executive at Equifax. Equifax is a large Fortune 500, publicly-traded company that focuses on transforming data into insights so that consumers can live their best financial lives and companies can better manage their risks. Melissa Townsley is chief executive officer of Giact. Giact is a small, fast growing company focusing on protecting consumers and companies in the areas of identity and fraud in lending and payment ecosystems. These two "competitors turned collaborators" will share their experiences and insights on how to achieve best outcomes in constrained environments via co-opetition.

Melissa Monk
SVP Global Alliances and Innovation

Melissa has over 29 years of business experience. She has held executive leadership positions across multiple industries and functional areas. She has developed a distinguished reputation for leading and developing teams, understanding macro trends, applying client and consumer context, deploying differentiated strategy, solving problems and delivering results.

Melissa joined Equifax 7+ years ago as CCO leading the Wells Fargo Account as part of the KCP.During her tenure there she helped grow the revenue of WF by over 20%. 3 years ago Melissa transitioned into the CCO role leading the largest single account at Equifax, Credit Karma. Amongst other successes on the account, Melissa led the renewal of the contract with CK penning the highest value, single deal in Equifax history at $355M. Melissa then led the BD&I team within USIS. In 2018 Melissa delivered $82.3M in TCV (including $5.6M in global) and $20M in incremental 12 month revenue. In 2019, Melissa took on the additional responsibility for Global Alliances and Innovation. Her focus has been the development of a new global practice for Equifax including the creation and deployment of business strategy, quantifying the total addressable market by region and creating a segmentation strategy and operating model to drive monetization of this new business.

Prior to Equifax, Melissa spent time at Acxiom where she had accountability for growing a portfolio of Financial Services Accounts, including the country's largest bank. Melissa also led Acxiom's Global Delivery Team in the development and deployment of custom FI solutions. Her teams were located in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, China and the US. Before Acxiom, Melissa spent 9 years at Capital One where she developed expertise across virtually every banking product vertical in a number of functional areas including; marketing (customer acquisition and management), servicing, fraud, collections and recoveries, strategy and analytics, operations, underwriting, compliance, credit risk and channel management.

Melissa graduated from University of Texas at Dallas, with a BS in Business Administration, concentration in Finance. She also was awarded her MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Melissa graduated from Darden with an award for academic excellence. She also received the prestigious C. Stewart Sheppard Distinguished Service Award.

Melissa is passionate about improving the community in which she lives. She has been an advocate to end hunger amongst the young and elderly and given her personal experience, she works tirelessly to prevent breast cancer. Melissa also provides executive coaching to many non-profit leaders. Her personal passions include: focus on family and friends, discovering new food and wine, and World Travel.

Melissa is the CEO and co-founder of GIACT Systems, which helps companies positively identify and authenticate customers. Melissa has led GIACT since its founding and is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the company. With deep expertise in payment processing, risk mitigation and compliance, Melissa identified the need in the market for a new approach to identify and eliminate payments fraud as multiple industries increasingly began to rely on digital payments.

Under her leadership, GIACT has grown to include a client roster of over 1,000 companies, many of them in the Fortune 500.

Prior to founding GIACT in 2004, Melissa held a broad range of leadership positions across multiple departments including sales, customer service, claims payments and more during a 17-year career in the insurance industry.
