Patients and Precision: 2021 ASAP BioPharma Conference Explores Collaboration in the Increasingly Digital World of Healthcare

As we emerge from the pandemic, the biopharmaceutical industry is faced with a variety of challenges old and new—and some old ones with a new twist. The industry continues to advance precision medicine, better patient outcomes, and digital health in an emerging hybrid work environment, and organizational collaboration skills are more critical than ever in making the future the present.

Alliances Model Innovation While Serving Patients

Alliance management is leading some of the industry’s most powerful developments benefiting patients, which is why the 2021 ASAP BioPharma Conference—whose theme this year is “Mastering the Biopharma Ecosystem to Cocreate New Value and Better Patient Outcomes”—is arming those executives in the boardroom and on the virtual frontlines with the knowledge they need to modernize medicine as we know it. Helen Torley, president, CEO, and board member at Halozyme, and Tim Van Hauwermeiren, cofounder, CEO, and board member at argenx, will reveal “The Power of Collaboration in Bringing Greater Value to Patients” in the conference’s first keynote section. That keynote will be complemented by a panel of executives from Simcere, Bayer, and Merus who will dissect “Partnering for Patient Impact” in greater detail.

While getting more involved in patient care tops many biopharma outfits’ external objectives, internal strategy is of equal import to the C-suite, which must turn to its partnering function to uncover the next big moneymakers. Patrick Anquetil, founder and CEO of Portal Instruments, will draw on his company’s experience creating needle-free injections to show attendees how to create “An Alliance-centric Business Model to Foster Innovation in Pharma” in the keynote kicking off the event’s second day.

Data Drives Precision Healthcare and the Organizational Operating Model

Pharmaceutical alliance managers are increasingly being asked to work with IT entities to bring forth some of these advancements as the two mainstay alliance management industries continue to converge over life- and market-changing digital healthcare initiatives. Two leaders from GE Healthcare, a company at the forefront of the computer-aided health revolution, will illustrate “The Power of Strategic Alliances, Real-World Data, and AI to Help Achieve Precision Health.”

Of course, data isn’t just critical in addressing unmet patient needs, it’s also bolstering alliance operations behind the scenes. Two certified alliance management veterans from Dicerna Pharmaceuticals will show the audience the art of “Building a Data-Driven Alliance Operating Model,” while two C-level executives from alliance management software platform provider allianceboard will examine “Digital Maturity and the Evolving Role of Biopharma Alliance Management.”

Maintaining an Integration, Your Skills, and Your Career

Continuing a theme from recent global ASAP events, alliance newlyweds Bristol Myers Squibb and DarwinHealth will display their teamwork when they deliver a presentation outlining how to weather the changes and maintain the health of an alliance when one or both parties suddenly find themselves involved in a major acquisition and integration.

Of course, ASAP conferences do more than just keep you ahead of the most important issues facing your organization. They also help you build professional skills and advance your career. The on-demand session “Principles to Action Plan: Career Planning Workshop for the Alliance Manager” will help with both, while another on-demand offering will focus on the omnipresent challenge that has swept over the entire business world in the last year and a half: “Forming and Launching Alliances Remotely: Best Practices Pressure Tested and Reshaped During a Global Pandemic.” Rounding out the on-demand portion of this year’s BioPharma Conference is a presentation from the ASAP Alliance Excellence Award–winning nonprofit Cancer Research UK that will examine “Stakeholder Engagement: How Agile Thinking Can Transform Your Approach.”

The educational opportunities don’t end there. As is the case with all ASAP global events, the ASAP BioPharma Conference will feature two master classes, one on “Operational Excellence for Alliance Managers in a Hybrid Environment,” hosted by ASAP sponsor The Rhythm of Business, and another on “Cross-Cultural Alliances: How to Collaborate Across Continents,” which will be taught by another ASAP sponsor, Vantage Partners.

All told, attendees will be treated to six hours of livestream keynotes and executive panels and three hours of master classes, as well as several virtual networking opportunities—a feature of ASAP conferences valued highly by members—sprinkled in throughout this annual two-day event.

The ASAP BioPharma Conference will be held virtually September 27–28, 2021.
