Position Description:

The AD for Alliance Management will support the Director for Alliance Management to establish a newly created Alliance Management function that will support the commercial distributor team and the CF franchise. He/she will help enact smooth governance processes internally within Vertex and externally with partners across the regions where Vertex has a presence. He/she will be responsible for implementing the tools and project management techniques that will help improve partnership effectiveness, via capturing operational and relationship risks and assessing these to ensure the overall alliance value is being delivered. He/she will also support the Director of Alliance Management to identify future operating models in new markets that will inform geographic expansion and new partner identification. This is a hybrid role.


- Work closely with the Director for Alliance Management to identify the best operating models in new markets, in synergy with new partner identification

- Help establish a holistic partner management governance process covering end to end partnership stages

- Provide alliance management, leadership and problem solving to ensure the partnerships deliver value. Help identify solutions that deliver value creation for the alliance, mitigate risk, and prevent dispute escalation spanning the breadth of cross-functional teams

- Help recognize and addresses problems or potential conflicts and identifies the necessary steps to support and negotiate their resolution into partnership best practice

- Proactively monitor and optimize relationship health, anticipating potential risks and facilitating appropriate mitigation

- Implement the strategies to ensure timely and efficient flow of information, prepare meeting materials and capture meeting outcomes

- Develop communication plans that will ensure critical information is shared in a timely manner to internal cross-functional groups and to external audiences

- Help realize the goal of implementing best practice norms for Alliance Management across the distributor team

- Assist in contract negotiation support where appropriate, and provide input into governance structures and processes that are appropriately formalized to ensure the partner is adhering to their obligations

- Is willing to provide the administrative support that comes with realizing the above responsibilities

Required Experience:

- Experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry as an instrumental contributor to a range of collaborative projects in an alliance leadership capacity

- Requires experience in managing distributor regions and executive go-to-market planning

- Requires a repertoire of project management and analytical skills focused on alliance governance, which can help realize the distributor’s team strategic in an informed and diligent manner

- Knowledge of business practices and cultural differences across international markets

- Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly matrixed work environment

- Strong team player with excellent interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to prepare clear and influential power point presentations and other communicative materials

- Strong analytical and financial skills with ability to assess viable commercial partnerships Ability to extract and synthesize detailed/technical information into big-picture strategy


Bachelor’s degree in scientific or relevant business discipline (or equivalent experience)
