Training, Coaching, Mentoring: Jump In & Sink or Swim vs. Train ’em Right

Many alliance professionals came to the role by the offhand, “accidental” route: “We need you to manage this alliance—good luck!” With no one to train them, much of what they learned about alliance management was on the job, day by day, the classic baptism of fire. Given this state of affairs, what role does training, coaching, and mentoring play in creating high-performing alliance teams and more effective alliance managers? In this virtual roundtable, we’ll discuss all aspects of this question and learn how a little education and sharing of knowledge and experience might go a long way toward the building of more successful alliance teams and groups.
