Breaking Up Is Hard to Do—but It’s Easier If You Do It Right

Probably no one wants to contemplate the end of an alliance amid the heady optimism and good feelings that tend to prevail during alliance launch. All the more reason, then, to get it right from the start—including making plans and provisions for what happens when the music’s over and it’s time to turn out the lights. That includes transferring assets and information, winding down activities, and taking all the steps necessary to terminate an alliance effectively and amicably—while leaving the door open to future collaborations.
