Job Description

As a Senior Director, Alliance Management, at Gilead you will play a critical role in shaping and executing high-impact strategic alliances that advance our research, development, and commercialization objectives. 

This role exists to ensure that complex external partnerships deliver on their scientific, operational, and financial potential. You will serve as the enterprise owner of alliance execution—aligning internal stakeholders, governing decision-making, anticipating risk, and driving value realization across a global, matrixed environment.

Key Outcome Areas 

Strategic Alliance Leadership 

  • Set alliance direction, scope, and operating cadence in collaboration with internal and external partners. 
  • Establish and lead governance forums that enable effective decision-making and issue resolution. 
  • Act as the primary escalation point for critical alliance risks. 

Enterprise Alignment & Execution 

  • Ensure internal teams are aligned with contractual commitments, milestones, and deliverables. 
  • Monitor adherence to research, development, and commercialization plans. 
  • Lead or support contract renegotiations and new business agreements. 

 Performance, Forecasting & Health Management 

  • Oversee forecasting inputs and alliance “health checks” to support financial and strategic planning. 
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve execution risks across portfolios of active alliances. 
  • Drive continuous improvement through audits, best-practice sharing, and process ownership. 

Internal Advisory & Capability Building 

  • Serve as Gilead’s internal expert on assigned partner companies, including strategy, organization, and financial context. 
  • Engage senior leadership with clear insights, recommendations, and decision support. 
  • Contribute to alliance management capability-building through training, tools, and shared standards. 

Success in the first 6–12 months looks like: 

  • Trusted alliance leadership with clear governance rhythm 
  • Proactive risk identification and resolution 
  • Strong executive confidence in alliance performance and transparency

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 14 years of relevant experience 
    OR 
  • Master’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience 
    OR 
  • PhD and 12 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MBA or equivalent) in Business, Life Sciences, Medicine, or Law 
  • Experience leading alliance management or partnership execution in pharmaceutical or life sciences settings 
  • Knowledge of oncology, virology (HIV, hepatitis), or inflammation pharmaceutical markets 
  • Experience with global partnerships, including EU and Japan 
  • Integration Management experience 
  • Strong executive presence, strategic thinking, and matrix leadership capability

The salary range for this position is: $261,375.00 - $338,250.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
